[Infographic] Grow These Plants to Repel Mosquitoes Around the Garden & Yard

These fragrant herbs and flowers make a lovely border and may help repel mosquitoes around your home this summer.

As much as I love summer, there is one aspect of the warmer months that I can’t stand…

And that’s mosquitoes!

Unfortunately, as I’ve gotten older it seems I have developed a greater sensitivity to mosquito bites, sometimes leaving me with huge, swollen, red, itchy welts that itch and burn for days on end. Luckily, only certain mosquitoes seem to have this impact on me, so not every bite is that miserable, but our recent family vacation to Minnesota definitely featured some uncomfortably itchy days and nights.

While I’ve found many natural repellents only moderately helpful, some gardeners swear by planting certain plants around heavily trafficked areas such as patios, porches, and walkways to keep mosquitoes away.

Anything that may repel mosquitoes and save me from the dreadful bites is worth it in my book, so if you’re tired of suffering too, feel free to give these a try! At the very least, you’ll have some fragrant and useful herbs close by for easy use in the kitchen.

An avid gardener since childhood, I love sharing my passion for gardening with others! I have gardened in a number of different climates and settings, from large fenced garden plots, to tiny patio and container gardens, and I firmly believe that everyone can learn to grow at least some of their own food - no matter where you live. Growing your own food can help you take control of your own health and food supply, and there has never been a better time to get started!
