[Video] 10 Fun & Unusual Veggies to Grow In Your Garden
Looking for something new and fun to grow in your garden this year? This quick video shares some unusual veggies to consider!
One of the great things about growing your own food is that not only is it super-fresh and healthy and you know where it comes from, but it gives you the opportunity to try unusual veggies that you’d likely never find in your local grocery store! Growing heirloom vegetables allows you to preserve our food heritage and propagate varieties that may otherwise be lost to our gardens. There are also many unique hybrid varieties that can add something new and interesting to both your garden and your dinner plate. (For example, while we mostly grow heirloom and open-pollinated varieties, one unusual hybrid that we love is the Habanada pepper – it looks, smells, and tastes like a Habanero, but without the heat!)
If you love okra, why not try purple okra? What about purple tomatillos, sweet potatoes or beans? (Yes, there’s a lot of fun purple stuff.) 🙂 Or our favorite – watermelon radishes (pictured above). But the fun goes well beyond just funky colors.
This short video explores 10 interesting, fun, and unusual veggies – some of which you may never have heard of – to try in your garden whenever you’re ready to mix things up a bit and try something new!
