Green Tomatoes

If you’re facing your first frost, but still have green tomatoes in your garden, don’t give up on them! You can prolong your tomato season with these simple tips for ripening your leftover green tomatoes.

It’s a sad day when your beautiful summer tomato crop is done, but don’t despair if frost is predicted and you still have green tomatoes in the garden! You can still pick them and ripen them indoors over the next several weeks. Using these methods, we’ve sometimes had ripe tomatoes all the way into November!

And if you have really small green ones that may not ripen all the way, you can also use them green in green tomato relish, chutney, or salsa verde. For larger ones, you may also like to try fried green tomatoes – one of my favorite ways to use leftover green tomatoes!
