[Video] Tips for Growing Cool Cucumbers

Cucumbers are a fun and easy-to-grow summer crop. Here are a few tips for growing this crisp, cool veggie…

Cucumbers are one of my absolute favorite summer vegetables – in fact, just watching this video made my mouth water! 🙂

Unfortunately, last year’s scourge of cucumber beetles was so bad that we ended up without any cucumbers, and I decided not to grow them this year, in hopes that the beetle population would die down. (Ironically, this year, I haven’t seen a single beetle anywhere, though last year they were all over my beans, peas, and other crops as well.) However, since I just couldn’t bear the thought of living through another summer with no cucumbers, I am, in fact, growing 2 plants in a large pot on our deck, where they are happily now climbing up the clothesline pole. 🙂 (My favorite are the Boston Pickling variety, which are extra-fast, keep going almost all the way until fall, and stay sweet, crisp, and delicious even in hot weather.)

Cucumbers are generally very fast-growing and easy to grow, but in case you would like a few tips for growing this cool summer treat, the video below shares some ideas for growing them both in a greenhouse and oudoors, plus some ideas for building a simple frame to support your happy climbers as they grow, and maximize your garden space.

An avid gardener since childhood, I love sharing my passion for gardening with others! I have gardened in a number of different climates and settings, from large fenced garden plots, to tiny patio and container gardens, and I firmly believe that everyone can learn to grow at least some of their own food - no matter where you live. Growing your own food can help you take control of your own health and food supply, and there has never been a better time to get started!
